Pharmaceutical Executive Europe - November/December 2007 - (Page 6) 6 From the editor Nov/Dec 2007 Pharmaceutical Executive Europe Get set for the digital switchover T his issue of Pharm Exec Europe is particularly special: from January, PEE is going ‘all digital.’ While print magazines will always have their supporters, this move to a digital-only platform is an inevitable one for us — the nature of trade publishing has changed immeasurably over the last five years, and is continuing to evolve at a dizzying pace. The way in which business readers consume their information is now weighted heavily towards online sources; in this world of wireless broadband, online access to articles, data and opinions has become easier than ever before. The print publication may still serve as a browsable resource on that long plane journey, but, today, those in search of up-to-date information will log onto their PCs before fishing out a glossy magazine. This does not mean, however, that Pharm Exec Europe will not exist in the visual format that its readers are familiar with. As a turning-page e-zine, it will continue to offer expert commentary on the pharma industry, retaining all the sections featured in the magazine you are currently holding. But the move to digital is particularly liberating in that we can now provide a monthly product to our readers, whereas previously we were restricted to eight issues a year. And by supplementing this with two-weekly e-newsletters, we are now able to address the key industry events with much more topicality, as well as having the space to explore a range of issues from the different industry sectors with more depth. Importantly, our ‘digital switchover’ has also fuelled the great improvements recently made to our website www.pharmexeceurope.com. Now offering daily news/feature updates and a host of new sections, from interviews to surveys, pharmexeceurope.com is set to become the must-visit, interactive portal for all those involved in senior decision making in the pharma industry. 2008 will also see the development on the site of a variety of rich media offerings, such as podcasts and vodcasts, presenting great opportunities for users to see and hear industry leaders in action, and for those wishing to convey their insights with more immediacy and impact. So, it just remains for me to say a fond farewell to the printed magazine, and to wish you all a Merry Christmas.
