I do think there is a trend toward detailed customization and clients will continue to push for cutting edge amenities whether they are purchasing a 55 footer for Lake Shasta or a 120 footer for Lake Lanier. HBA: Will cruising style houseboats be a bigger or smaller part of the future of Sumerset and why? SL: Yes, customer demand will dictate product mix. We see River and Intercoastal boating as opportunities to create new markets. HBA: Will Sumerset Cruisers evolve to be more like river yachts or will they maintain a boxier shape with a bow piece? SL: I can see both, this will be more driven by customer demand and choice. HBA: Do you think having an onboard, built-in computer with hi-speed Internet access would be an accessory that buyers would be willing to pay a premium for? SL: Yes and no. We have pockets of the country where having the onboard office computer or wi-fi capability is a must, but we have customers that want to escape the technology too! HBA: How is Sumerset responding to these rapidly )6B@" A05("%C&5AB9&@ developing technology requests? SL: Our customers make sure we are in touch and in tune with what is happening. HBA: Are the developments of alternative or supplemental energy sources such as solar panels, or the use of hybrid technology being used or implemented in your models? SL: Again, this is driven by demand and we do have some individuals who request alternative sources, specifically solar panels and eco-friendly fuels, but only one percent of our clients are looking for this. HBA: How important will fuel and energy economy be to houseboats in the next decade? How is Sumerset planning for these changes? SL: It is a common misconception that houseboats use great amounts of fuel. Our customers are more likely to consume three times the amount of fuel in their go fast boats than they will use during a summer of houseboating. We have seen some move to diesel consumption in the last several months out west. Certainly, we will follow the industry’s lead in fuel economy, but that is not on the front burner for us.
