Next June, at the World Gas Conference in Paris, the U.S. will move into the presidency of IGU. Plan now to attend this significant event By TrAcy Burleson h e a dway ONCe IN a GeNeratION H eld once every three years, the World Gas Conference attracts thousands of energy industry leaders, technical and commercial professionals, government officials, and policy makers. This global natural gas industry event is being held by the International Gas Union in Paris from June 1-5 next year and should not be missed. The WGC is the largest conference in the global gas industry, and the event in 2015 will be the 26th WGC, marking the culmination of the French IGU presidency. IGU, founded in 1931, is made up of associations and corporations of the gas industry from around the world. Its membership includes 84 member countries and 43 associated companies, representing more than 95 percent of the world gas market, and serving as the spokesperson for the gas industry worldwide. The American Gas Association is the U.S. charter member of IGU, representing the entire U.S. gas industry value chain. The WGC program will provide studies that will have significant impact on our industry, based on research conducted throughout the three-year period of the French presidency. This material is being created by a network of more than 1,000 industry professionals, including AGA members and staff, serving on working committees, program committees ,and task forces. These conference topics will span the entire natural gas value chain from exploration to distribution. As a participant, you will have the opportunity to hear from the industry's most distinguished speakers, visit more than 350 exhibitors showcasing the latest technologies, attend technical tours, and network with your peers. The WGC in Paris will mark the end of a very productive French presidency and will launch the term of the United States IGU presidency. To begin this role, AGA will host several events at the WGC in Paris and Terry McCallister, AGA's current vice chairman and chairman of the board and chief executive officer of WGL Holdings Inc. and Washington Gas will be a keynote speaker at the event. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for the United States to lead the global gas industry. David Carroll, president 48 AmericAn GAs june 2014 and CEO of the Gas Technology Institute, will serve as the president and lead the U.S. triennium. The United States leadership will culminate with the 27th WGC, to be held in Washington, D.C., in June 2018. This will be the first time since 1988 that the United States has held the presidency of the IGU or hosted the WGC.
