Education Catalog 2008 - (Page 5) See Page 38 for Company Specific Training AGC INSTRUCTORS Paul Stout Estimating, Project Management, Prevailing Wage Paul Stout is a construction project manager, estimator and construction seminar instructor, bringing more than twenty five years of practical, hands-on construction experience into the seminar / workshop and consulting arena. From Laborer to Project Manager, Paul advanced through the ranks to learn the industry from the inside out. He was a crew Foreman or Project Superintendent for five years, an Estimator for more than five years and a Project Manager for more than ten years. Paul has managed projects from the position of both Subcontractor and Prime Contractor (GC). Paul has written, produced and presented many components for Certificate Series Programs for Foremen, Project Managers, Estimators, and Project Engineers. Since the year 2000, Paul has conducted 14 construction project management software training sessions and presented hundreds of seminars and workshops in 60 US cities, spanning 22 states. James P. Schabarum II CPCU, AFSB, CWCA, Executive Vice President Jim graduated from San Diego State University in 1986 receiving a Bachelor’s degree in financial services with a minor in insurance. As a student, Jim was involved directly in the construction industry and also worked with Farmers Insurance Company. In 1991, Jim joined Robson, Cavignac & Associates and helped develop their bond department as well as the bond department of their parent company, Lawrence United Corporation. In 1994, Jim joined the Hartwell Corporation in Idaho Falls, Idaho, once again spearheading the development of a bond department. In September 1996, Jim joined Cavignac & Associates where he heads the company’s Construction Department specializing in the surety and insurance needs of San Diego’s construction community, and is one of the first recipients of the surety industry’s Associate in Fidelity and Surety Bond (AFSB) designation. He also received his Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriting (CPCU) designation in 1996. O. Wade Messer Consultant Wade has over 29 years experience helping businesses achieve their goals. He has assisted companies by increasing sales, building management teams, training personnel, and researching future markets. Wade is an accomplished public speaker and has managed consulting divisions of public accounting firms in Phoenix, Los Angeles, and Nashville. Wade works directly with business owners to assist them with exceeding their profitability goals, expanding market share, and improving employee productivity. He has assisted companies in many areas including strategic planning, sales training, marketing, business development, human resources and operations. John Cellini Microsoft Training John Cellini teaches web design and office applications. His certifications include A+, Network+, i-Net+, and he is an authorized Microsoft Office Specialist Instructor for Access, Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Dan Fauchier Management / Construction Consultant Dan is the Vice President of The ReAlignment Group, LTD., experienced in facilitating project turnarounds using realignment techniques. He is a national lecturer and trainer, college teacher, mediator, arbitrator, and construction management expert with thirty years of experience in hands-on construction management. Dan has led forensics analysis teams resolving claims and analyzing entitlement and quantum on over $3 billion dollars in projects across the U.S. over the past decade. Simon Turner LEED Consultant Turner earned an HND in applied biology from Nottingham City University, England. Prior to joining HBI, Turner spent four years with the Atmospheric Sciences Division of the National Physical Research Laboratory in South Africa. There he conducted air pollution research in such fields as asbestos, acid rain, lead in gasoline and dust monitoring in heavily industrialized areas. Turner is the author of some 30 publications and technical reports on such topics. Turner was located in HBI’s Fairfax Virginia office, moved to Southern California in 1994, and founded HBI’s Western Regional office, where his role includes method development, marketing, and project management of many of HBI’s research and consulting projects. Rob Scherer Financial / Accounting Rob graduated from the University of Central Florida with a B.S. in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance and a minor in International Business. He holds a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in International Business from San Diego State University. The Accounting Group is one of the largest providers of outsourced accounting services in San Diego, and a boutique services firm specializing in providing the outsourcing of accounting functions onsite. Ron Meler R.W. Consulting Ron has been in the construction industry for over thirty years and working for GC’s in the San Diego area for over 25 years. He has served as Vice President of Operations for an office averaging annual revenues in excess of $140 million dollars in commercial construction. His ability to share current experience in the inner operations of successful large commercial building contractors is invaluable. He has personally managed over 70 commercial construction projects. Ron holds a Journeyman Certificate from the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, a Certificate in Construction Practices from SDSU, and an active State of California General Building Contractors License. Jane Ledford CPSWQ Jane is an Environmental Project Manager for Rick Engineering Company’s Water Resources Division at the San Diego office. She has twelve years of government and commercial experience managing permit applications at the State and Federal levels, preparing SWPPP Plans, Post-Construction Storm Water Operation and Management Plans, and assisting clients with storm water implementation on their construction sites. She currently manages the company’s Environmental Services Division, which can take projects through the regulatory web from planning through post-construction. Jane has a B.S. in Environmental Health and is a certified professional in Storm Water Quality. Kelly Doyle CPESC Kelly is an Environmental Specialist for Rick Engineering Company’s San Diego office and has extensive experience in the field of storm water compliance at the federal, state, and local levels.
