Airbrush Technique Issue 21 - (Page 21) I don’t use any stencils, 100% of the work is done with an airbrush and by free hand technique. I just think about a design but don’t draw anything on paper. I keep the design idea in my head and paint it directly on the project surface. -I degrease the piece often. -I use a 0.2mm needle airbrush. In fact, I use my airbrush as a pencil to draw the outlines with very thin white paint in order to place and understand all of the elements I plan to put into the design. Once the design is laid out I continue by spraying white into the main areas of the design applying more white on areas that will be highlighted in the completed painting. After, I continue with the white paint by filling up the background and shading off the color to create a sort of fire stock. Always by free hand I spray the yellow background color with an opaque yellow. I let the yellow overspray go over the figures to create a back lightning effect. In the background I quickly create an effect with a mix of red and black color as well as a mix of orange and yellow. On the figures, I add the first details with a mix of pearl grey and a little orange color. At this stage I’m trying to achieve a blurred effect in order to keep very soft shade look. I continue the background by adding more details with transparent orange and red. I add all the details to my figures with grey scale and brown scale colors; I’m work from light to dark colors.
