Airbrush Technique Issue 21 - (Page 28) The whole design now has leaf applied to it. It is best to use complete sheets. Since this design is in Variegated Leaf with patterns, you can also use sections of half sheets. When using a regular one color leaf you must use complete sheets. This is because when using a single color leaf you will get lines showing where sheets over lap. So if you are just starting to do this, variegated Leaf is easier to work with. Getting a piece of card stock and using my left hand, I now gently press on the sheet to flatten out all the leaf work. Because of static electricity when pulling off the paper excess leaf will stick to it also. I now start gently rubbing off the excess leaf, using quality soft cotton ball to do this works best. Do this carefully with a light touch, try not to rub the middle of design where there is no size (adhesive). You’ll find the leaf tears cleanly and falls away from your design just leaving leaf where we intended it to be. Keep gently rubbing away from design. You can slightly dampen a cotton ball to pick up loose-leaf dust and fragments. Also if you are very careful you can use masking tape to pick up loose leaf also. Do not ever touch any part of leaf design with tape, it will pull it and ruin the whole job. Gold leaf cannot be touched up. Also, do not use air to clean off excess leaf. After all the cleaning this is the completed design. Since this was done in an Oil Based type size, I will brush on Oil Based clear varnish to protect the leaf. The next step is to outline the gold leaf design. OUT LINING THE DESIGN
