Airbrush Technique Issue 22 - (Page 10) When I am done airbrushing around the whole design on the side of the tank, I begin to mask off the inside edge of the design so that the middle of the side of the tank, what I call a window, is exposed. Then I begin to do a rough freehand drawing with the airbrush of the concept morphed skulls and “lost souls” in the background that Jim and I talked about. After getting a good idea of what the inside of the window will look like, I start to fade around the inside edge of the design with a transparent black. Then I start to fade in some transparent blue and transparent green to give it a cool but eerie tone after which I start to define with black. I don’t always use black for this because it can be to strong right off the bat, but I feel this design and this type of artwork warrants it.
