Airbrush Technique Issue 22 - (Page 16) For wood graining, you want to have a light colored background my favorite is either white or yellow. I paint a panel half and half to show you the subtle difference the background color will make. Really Easy!!! Start laying a super wet coat of light brown run that bugger! Once the paint is dry, I take a normal sheet of paper, and rip it into a wedge shape. I make certain that it is not a smooth rip. The contours and irregularities will add to the appearance of my wood. I lay my ripped paper across my panel, and using the same brown, spray along the edges of my “stencil”. I then move the wedge back, and repeat the process the whole way across my panel. I grab my secret weapon, the red Scotch Brite pad and begin dragging it through all the wet paint. I keep dragging and dragging until the paint tacks up. There you have it. Fast and easy! You can tweak the color of the panel by dusting in some yellows, red oxides, black, etc. Be EASY! Just a light dusting here and there will add more texture and feel to your wood grain.
