Airbrush Technique Issue 22 - (Page 30) Step7: With a skin tone based on Blake McCully’s recipe I cover the entire face ( 3 parts sun yellow -1 part fire red -1 part root beer ). Rather than just blast away you should still follow the lines of the various features so that you can layer more paint in critical places such as creases and eye recesses. Step8 & 9: Now, using root beer I define the darker areas without going too far. The root beer is very subtle and looks good over the basic skin tone. Step10: When you study a photograph of a face you see a lot more than just skin color and introducing other colors also adds a new dimension to you work. Also, any stage lighting will show up on the skin if this was present. Keith here has blue around the eyes and a 5 o’clock shadow, so using teal blue I misted over these areas without going too far. This is also a very good color for shading without using black. Step11: This is where these other colors come into play. I use magenta around the lips and certain other areas; purple and red purple just to warm things up a bit and add interest to the whole thing. I also give him brown eyes and re-do the eyebrows, mouth and hair with transparent black. The teeth need a little yellow and I generally go over the whole thing with white hitting any highlights that were covered up during the whole process. To finish off I tape off a border and spray this with Auto Air aluminium fine. http://www.airbrushtechnique.com http://www.airbrushtechnique.com
