Airbrush Technique Issue 22 - (Page 8) I received a request from a good friend and a fellow airbrush artist to collaborate and execute some of his wicked ideas on to his 2005 Harley-Davidson 883sporty. Of course it was an honor to do this for him and also an honor that he asked me to help. This guy is known on the Airbrush Technique forum as Dixie Rambler, Jim Childress of Montevallo, AL. I also recruited the help of Redesign Ron from Surprise, AZ also a member of the Airbrush Technique forum; with his expertise in fabrication and bodywork, base and clear coats his assistance in this project was key to it’s successful outcome. He is way more efficient in those skill sets than this pokey AB artist. This is Jim’s Sporty before it was stripped down and retransformed. When we received the tins, Jim decided he didn’t want the extra holes on the rear fender that were for a two up seat and a license plate holder. So we had them welded shut and Ron performed the body work to perfection, then he handed me the tins base coated with HOK platinum pearl silver, super smooth! I first clean the tins really well with a water based wax/grease remover to eliminate any greasy fingerprints and also to prevent any antistatic overspray from the airbrush. From there I began to apply the beginning stages of the tribal-Celtic type design that I drew up in Corel draw and cut out on a vinyl cutter to assure for clean symmetrical lines and edges through out the entire process. I’m only doing the left side and the top of the tank in this step by step because it would have become too lengthy to do the rest of the parts.
