Airbrush Technique Issue 23 - (Page 15) Ok I now have the foreground pine trees complete, I have also sprayed a mixture of 10 drops sky blue/2 drops light gray in the river. I then misted the entire background again with the over reduced white continuing with the foggy effect. In this photo I have completed the rocks working back and forth between the paint mixture of 5 drops dark brown/3 drops black for the deepest shadows, straight light gray for the overall color and lighter shading, and reduced white as the highlights. As I said I worked these combos back and forth until I achieved the look I was after. I then added some vegetation in the rocks using first a mixture of 10 drops forest green/ 3 drops black painting short fat daggers to represent the darkest leaves, followed with a mixture of 6 drops leaf green/1 drop forest green for the highlight leaves. Next I painted in some of the water splash with a reduced white, then misted it with over reduced sky blue (almost like spraying a Kandie) Next I will follow up with straight white to intensify the water splash with what else DAGGERS!! With the entire background complete to my satisfaction, I again mist the entire background with the over reduced white, paying close attention to keep the foreground in focus. Before I remove the positive stencil I sprayed some golden yellow where the eagles feet are to make sure to keep them in perspective. Placing the negative stencil in place using the repositional spray adhesive I begin to paint the eagle, this stencil will help maintain the sharp, crisp edges on the eagle. With my eagle reference photo close by, I start to paint the feathers, the darker ones using straight dark brown, the tail gets first light gray to form the feathers then white to highlight. After a signature, clear coat with Krylon Matte finish, a nice oak frame, this one is done and has found a place on my wall.
