Airbrush Technique Issue 23 - (Page 26) by Deb “Peanut” Smith It worked out that both Deb and myself where looking to purchase vinyl cutters at about the same time mainly for cutting lettering for our airbrush projects. Deb went with the Graphtec Craft Robo2 and I went with the Roland Stika. Over the next couple issues we will publish articles covering how the two of us who where totally new to vinyl cutters get on with making use of the cutters we purchased. Don Johnson I recently purchased a Graphtec Craft Robo2 cutter plotter mainly for lettering in my yard art and other airbrush projects. The reason I choose the Graphtec was mainly based on price and the fact I just wanted to use it for lettering, simple designs. At about $250.00 the Graphtec is capable of doing everything I wanted to do with a cutter without breaking the bank account. With no prior cutter experience I was able to cut lettering within a very short time of loading the software. The Craft Robo is an inexpensive option for plotting and cutting vinyl, mask, stencils and a huge variety of media to aid in your airbrush projects. One big plus the Robo 2 has over other craft cutters, it works from the included design software or optional program plug-in such as Adobe Illustrator and not from expensive limiting cartridges. Here in this article I will walk you thru how I go about cutting some lettering using The Robo. Open Robo Master software in tool bar click “NEW” A document settings window will appear; here you may select a pre set cut area such as Legal, Carrier Sheet” etc. or you may set a custom area. Portrait or Landscape orientation is selected here also. For this lettering how-to the registration mark option is not needed. Set options & click “OK” An untitled window will appear and the toolbars will become available. In the window you will see a red-colored border area this is the actual cutting area so be sure that all lettering or future projects are placed with in this noted red zone. Optional step: A grid may be useful on projects. To add a grid to your project layout window in toolbar go to “View” and click “View grid”.
