SPRING – Fishing Opener Wild Flowers The prairie meets the woodlands in Central Minnesota. In the spring colorful wild flowers can be found along our wooded trails and on the open prairie. Many of these colorful gems can be easily seen from the walking trails in our two area state parks. There’s no better place to spend the fishing opener than in the Alexandria Lakes Area. Our lakes are top producers. Anglers will enjoy our hospitality whether relaxing at a comfortable motel or resort, or while dining out. Awake the Lakes Festival & Heritage Fest The Lakes Area kicks off summer with a Memorial Day weekend of activities including a Rib Fest, live music and special events at City Park. A family friendly Heritage Fest celebrates our ethnic diversity. Live Theater Located in downtown Alexandria, the AAAA Theatre produces and presents four community productions annually. Their season runs Breakfast with Big Ole Enjoy egg bake, fruit, juice and oldfashioned egg coffee. This late May event is sponsored by the Runestone Museum.
