Palm - Fall 2007 - (Page 27) PENN STATE > gamma omega philanthropy Paired with the sisters of Zeta Tau Alpha, the brothers of Gamma Omega raised $293,591.22 in the THON 2007, making the pair the No. 1 money raising organization for the 12th straight year. Over these 12 years, the pair has raised $3,126,763 for the Four Diamonds Fund benefiting children with cancer at the Hershey Medical Center. Their contribution this year helped to raise over $5.2 million. OHIO STATE > beta omega public Relations The Beta Omega chapter was recognized by The Columbus Dispatch for its Operation Buckeye program. Active brothers teamed up with the BOT and shipped 1,064 care packages to troops deployed to Iraq, including Ohio State Alumni and ATOs stationed in Iraq and Germany. The chapter has already received 150 thank you letters and is making a scrapbook to showcase the program to rushees and alumni. To date, the chapter has raised over $27,000. SIMPSON > beta alpha Intramurals The Beta Alpha chapter won the Intramural Cup for the third year in a row. The chapter participated in every intramural event throughout the year, and took home championships in seven events and placed in the top three in all others. SOUTHERN CAL > zeta beta philanthropy The Zeta Beta brothers recently participated in the Kappa Alpha Theta philanthropy, KAT at BAT. The week long event included fundraising for a local charity and culminated in a baseball tournament in which the brothers made the semifinals. SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI > epsilon upsilon philanthropy The Epsilon Upsilon chapter hosted its 22nd annual ATO Crawfish Boil. The chapter raised more than $20,000 to donate to Habitat for Humanity. The chapter boiled over 10,000 pounds of crawfish and 1,000 pounds of corn and potatoes for the more than 3,500 people who attended. UC-SANTA BARBARA > iota nu Individual Achievement Henry Lindemann, Santa Barbara ’06, and Mark Regus, Santa Barbara ’05, were elected President and Vice President of the IFC, respectively. WEST GEORGIA > eta phi philanthropy On March 6, the Eta Phi chapter held “Dodging Hunger,” a dodgeball tournament on campus. The event included four teams who played for 3 hours. The admission price was one can of food or $2 - which was donated to the county soup kitchen. OREGON STATE > alpha sigma philanthropy The chapter held its annual Cuts for a Cure event where chapter members allow their hair to grow out and then accept bids from sorority members to earn the honor to cut the hair. Winning bidders can cut the hair into any style of their choice, and members must sport the new do for a week. This year’s event raised more than $1,000 for the American Cancer Society. NORTH ALABAMA > theta eta Campus Involvement & Recognition The Theta Eta chapter won its 3rd consecutive Step Sing Championship. This was also the 5th consecutive men’s division win. The competition helped raise more than $10,000 for United Way of the Shoals.
