alumni news EVENTS The Iota Psi chapter at Temple University held its annual open house March 31, 2007. Temple University Staff, brothers’ parents and friends, as well as alumni all came out to the event. “It’s always a really good time and a great way to gain support while showing the campus what ATO is all about, and we are looking forward to continue this tradition,” said active Brad Rittle, Temple ‘05. TAU The 1956 Pledge Class from Alabama Beta Delta hosted a reunion of all the classes of the 1950s on Sept 22-23, 2006. Forty-five alumni attended including most of the 1956 pledge class. A reception was held at the chapter house on Friday night and a banquet on Saturday night at the Ferguson Student Center on campus, with the chapter officers and BOT members invited. IN BRIEF www.ato.org 28 RETIREMENTS & PROMOTIONS David Ascani, Southern Methodist ’75, was promoted to Chief Financial Officer of Persystent Technologies, a software firm located in Tampa, Fla. Dr. James Avant, Florida ’58, will retire as an Associate Prof. from Appalachian State in Dec 2007. Dr. Avant has been the faculty adviser for the ATO Iota Pi chapter since it’s colonization in 1990. He is retiring after 46 years in higher education. Scott Morgan, Oklahoma State ’94, has recently accepted a position as a high school recruiter for Remington College - Lafayette Campus. Morgan is also serving on the board of The Acadia Players theater troupe in Crowley, La. and recently costarred in its production of “Murder at the Howard Johnson’s.” Shawn Morland, Kent State ’91, has recently opened his own pizza franchise in Hilliard, Ohio. This new Wally’s Pizza had its grand opening on Jan. 8, 2006 and is rumored to be a favorite stop of Buckeye Basketball star Greg Oden. Juan Ongay, Central Florida ’97, has moved to Indianapolis and will now be serving as the program director at the Boys & Girls Club of Indianapolis, Lilly Unit. He previously was an instructional assistant in the Decatur Township school district. Richard W. Perry, Delaware ’53, has retired from the Baltimore Gas & Electric Co. Perry is now an officer of the Board of Directors of the Augsburg Lutheran Home, a continuing care retirement community near Baltimore, Md. Carl Sandstrom, San Diego State ’80, has taken a new position at California Joint Powers Insurance Authority after four years as a Senior Management Analyst. Sandstrom also recently earned his Associate in Risk Management designation last year. The Central Florida Chapter held an Alumni Golf Tournament at Sweetwater Golf Course in Longwood, Fla. May 4, 2007. Last year, the chapter collected $3,500 for its scholarship fund. The Saluki Tau (Southern Illinois) Alumni Association held its annual golf outing on August 4, 2007. Thirty-five brothers attended the outing at EagleWood Golf Club in Itasca, Ill. A steak dinner and continued fellowship followed after the scramble at Champp’s Restaurant and Bar in Schaumburg, managed by former chapter president Chad Severson.
