Palm - Fall 2008 - (Page 15) loyal tau G E O R G E N AP IE R LLT #01972 Southern Mississippi ’05 Former Chaplain Mandeville, La. Q: “I’ve gotten to be friends with ATOs all across the country.” George Napier is a former chaplain for the Epsilon Upsilon chapter of Alpha Tau Omega and currently serves as the IFC president at Southern Mississippi. He took time to sit in the Life Loyal Tau Q & A hot seat and go over some perks of being an undergraduate Life Loyal Tau. Q: Why did you join LLT? A: I thought it would be a really good opportunity for me to stay in touch with my fraternity. I’ve gone to a lot of the conferences and LeaderShape. I figured it would be a great way to keep in touch with not only my local chapter but all the guys I’ve met at the national level. I’ve gotten to be friends with ATOs all across the country. And if nothing else, than to just to give back to something that has given so much to me. Q: What’s your major and favorite class? A: I’m a double major in economics and business management. The classes I’ve enjoyed the most have been my economic development classes. Not only looking at economics from a national spectrum. If there were a rock star of economics, it’d be the national scene, what you hear about in the news. But also to hear about the theories of growth in economies and really how much of an impact you can have on a growing economy if the right person, with the right backing stepped in. Q: What do you want to do with that? A: I have an internship in northern England, where I’ll be working in economic development, helping energy firms from the U.K. break into the Gulf of New Mexico market. After that I hope to go to law school and end up in the energy sector, doing mergers and stuff on a corporate level. But I also have aspirations for a political career. I think I can make a strong impact there through my knowledge of economics and development of not only local but also state economy. Q: What is the nerdiest thing you’ve done recently? A: I did skip the last home football game to read John Stewart Mill’s tapestry called On Liberty. It wasn’t an easy read but I felt like a nerd after not going to the game. Q: What’s your favorite southern meal? A: Oh, got to be crawfish etoufee’. I studied abroad this summer, first thing I said when I called my mom and said I’m coming home, ‘all I want is a big pot of crawfish etoufee.’ Q: What’s the best thing about being an ATO? A: I like walking across campus being able to stick my chest out and know that I’m in, not only the best fraternity on my campus, but one of the best national fraternities.
