Nate was a Division III All American in the hammer throw and a two-time ICAC champion. He was also a four-year starter on the football team and three times CoSIDA Academic All District. He is now a senior software engineer with Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. >> Congressman John Tanner, Tennessee ’63, was presented the 2008 Truman Wise Men and Women Award in April. The award was presented to Tanner for lifetime achievement in “building a safer, smarter, and stronger America.” He is currently serving his 10th term in the House of Representatives and sits on the Foreign Affairs Committee. Nick Ackerman Derek Miles >> The NCAA Champion Magazine recently named Nick Ackerman’s 2001 Division III National Championship in wrestling as the No. 1 most dramatic championship in the history of the NCAA. Nick Ackerman, Simpson ’98, won the 174-pound class championship over the defending national champion who was on a 60-match winning streak. Ackerman lost his legs due to bacterial meningitis when he was an infant. >> Derek Miles, South Dakota ’92, was the lone U.S. representative in the pole-vaulting finals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Miles finished fourth overall while beating out nine other competitors. Miles placed first in the U.S. Olympic Trials while trying to qualify for the U.S. Track and Field Team. >> James David Jordan, Missouri ’75, has just released his second full-length novel, Forsaken. The book has been published through the B&H Publishing Group. Jordan’s second book in the series is scheduled for release in fall of 2009. >> Ned Kissinger, Gettysburg ’96, has just completed his first book, The Battlefield of Retirement. The book’s aim is to help Americans better prepare for their retirement years. The book is published through Outskirts Press, Inc. >> Kevin Stone, Adrian ’91, was a member of the 2008 U.S. Paralympic Archery Team that competed this summer in Beijing.
