The Kappa Eta chapter at Florida Tech chartered on November 17, 2007 with 40 brothers and Kappa Theta at Eastern Illinois was installed on January 12, 2008 with 41 brothers. ATO also rechartered the Epsilon Kappa chapter at Bowling Green State University on December 8, 2007 with 40 members. >> ATO has new colonies at Grand Valley State in Allendale, Mich. and Austin Peay State in Clarksville, Tenn. Grand Valley State colonized on February 15, 2008 with 24 members and Austin Peay State colonized on March 15, 2008 with 18 members. Austin Peay State has been closed since 1990. >> ATO National Headquarters began e-mail distribution of ATO Roadshow in March. The complete success show, which began in 2001 on VHS before moving to DVD distribution, is now e-mailed directly to ATO alumni, undergraduates, greek advisors, the Fraternity Executives Association, and members of the College Fraternity Editors Association. >> ATO Chief Executive Officer Wynn Smiley was elected to the Board of Directors of the North-American Interfraternity Conference this April at its annual meeting in Washington D.C. The NIC represents 72 national fraternities in the U.S. and Canada. Former National President Patrick I. Brown was the last ATO to serve on the NIC Board, eventually serving as NIC Board Chairman in 1989. Two other ATOs, Harry Rogers, Wyoming ’13, and John MacGregor, Oregon ’21 have served on the NIC Board. Smiley’s election to the Board while currently serving as a national fraternity executive is rare within the NIC. >> Last year’s Thomas Arkle Clark Honoree Daniel Bland, Baylor ’05, was honored with an Undergraduate Award of Distinction by the NorthAmerican Interfraternity Conference. Also the Alpha Theta chapter at Emory University was honored with a Chapter Award of Distinction. This marks the fifth consecutive year that an Alpha Tau Omega chapter has been given this award.
