With Thomas’s Academic All-American honor for Track and Field, he became the first athlete in Rose-Hulman history to receive Academic All-American honors in two separate sports. >> Tim Cindric, Rose-Hulman ’87, was named president of Penske racing last year and thanks to his work with the Penske racing team, Penske drivers Ryan Newman and Kurt Busch finished 1st and 2nd, respectively in the most recent running of the Daytona 500. Within the first year of Cindric’s presidency, the Penske team won its first Daytona 500 in 30 years. Politics/Military >> Charles Ladd Wheeler, Kansas ’78, became captain of the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt. The Theodore Roosevelt is home to the Carrier Air Wing Eight and demands a crew of over 5,500 personnel. >> The Jim Joyce Political Communications Program was created in honor of Jim Joyce’s, Nevada-Reno ’57, achievements in the world of politics and higher education. The program will consist of several debates in around the Reno, Nevada area that deal with the presidential debates and the impact of them on the outcome of the elections. chemistry professor at the University of Tennessee. The 2002 Emory initiate is based in Turner’s Hong Kong office, where he develops and executes strategic initiatives in television, film, and new media. He is currently managing the launch of two new Indian television networks - an original Hindi general entertainment channel and an English movie channel. In addition to television, Sanoop is preparing Turner for its foray into Bollywood, starting with original animated films. >> Scott Stein, Miami ’90,, has just released his second novel titled, Mean Martin Manning. The book has been critically praised for its humor and story telling. >> Motivational author and speaker James Quinn, Southern Cal ’69, was a keynote speaker for the ‘The Secret’ convention in Toronto, Canada last fall.
