AMCA conducts two categories of sound testing: in-room sound testing and adjacent room sound testing. Because Room 2 and Room 3 are connected, they can be used in conjunction with one another to test the inlet and outlet sound of a fan mounted in the wall connecting the adjoining rooms. Room 4, standing at 6.86 × 6.10 × 4.27 meters (270 × 240 × 168 inches), is also used solely for sound. This room, however, has a specific purpose. AMCA has dedicated Room 4 to its low sound testing, also in accordance with ANSI/AMCA Standard 300. The microphones used here are sensitive enough to pick up the lowest sound vibrations, and the room can shut out nearly all external noises. AMCA's laboratory currently has the capability to test fans, louvers, dampers, air curtains, power roof ventilators, positive pressure ventilators and airflow measurement stations. It can test for various kinds of efficiencies, leakages, and stability beyond air and sound performance. For example, the laboratory has wind-driven rain and water penetration test setups. And in its louver impact chamber, the AMCA laboratory can test a louver's resistance to highvelocity airborne projectiles.
