Although AMCA staff and members have long participated in International Standards Organization committees, provided lab accreditation services for manufacturer facilities in Europe and Asia, and convened meetings and presented technical papers outside North America, something was missing - regional leadership. This began to change when AMCA established Asia AMCA in Singapore in 2011. Then, in 2012, European AMCA was established in Brussels. These entities each have a board of directors and staff to provide AMCA leadership and representation in their respective regions. They have their own websites, events and logos. However, they also have regionally unique characteristics. In Europe, there is an AMCA verification program to label products that meet Tier 1 or Tier 2 fan efficiency requirements in the European Union. In Asia, there is an accredited laboratory that performs tests associated with the AMCA Certified Ratings Program. This is an exciting time for AMCA, and its international industry leadership is needed more than ever. The U.S. Department of Energy is developing federal efficiency requirements for commercial and industrial fans, and there is pressure by some in the fire protection industry to roll back fire and smoke damper requirements in codes and standards. In Europe, Tier 2 fan efficiency requirements take effect January 1, 2015, and the EU is planning Tier 3 and Tier 4 requirements. In Asia, AMCA is upgrading its laboratory and relocating it to Malaysia. In AMCA's growing Middle East region, the expertise there is leading the development of a global AMCA standard for sand trap louvers and will discuss issues pertient to the region at the 2014 AMCAhosted technical symposium in Dubai. AMCA International is more international than ever. It is this global perspective that makes AMCA uniquely positioned to advise legislators and regulators around the world, helping to harmonize both legislation and regulation. By the time this issue of AMCA inmotion goes to press, European AMCA will have hosted the International Symposium on Fan Efficiency Regulation, featuring speakers from China National Institute of Standards, European Commission, the U.S. Department of Energy, the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy and AMCA. I am very proud of the air movement and control industry that we serve. I hope that you will enjoy the editorials and articles within this issue of AMCA inmotion.
