CliNiCal NewS Proud Partner of Million Hearts® In august, the american Diabetes association became a partner of the Million Hearts® initiative. Million Hearts is a public-private initiative led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to prevent one million heart attacks and strokes in the united States by 2017. the Million Hearts initiative seeks to: * empower americans to make healthy choices such as avoiding tobacco use and reducing the amount of sodium and trans fat they consume. these changes will reduce the number of people who need medical treatment for high blood pressure or cholesterol-and ultimately prevent heart attacks and strokes. * improve care for people who do need treatment by encouraging a focus on the "aBCS"- aspirin for people at risk, Blood pressure control, Cholesterol management, and Smoking cessation-four steps to address the major risk factors for cardiovascular disease and to help prevent heart attacks and strokes. the association will work to raise awareness about the link between diabetes and heart disease through various channels, including CheckUp America brochures, Choose to Live booklets, and the My Health advisor online tool. Call for Papers for 3rd annual Diabetes Care Symposium "New Drug Therapies, innovative Management Strategies, and Novel Drug Targets" 74th Scientific Sessions the editors of Diabetes Care seek manuscript submissions for the 3rd annual Diabetes Care Symposium, titled "New Drug therapies, Innovative Management Strategies, and Novel Drug targets." authors of accepted papers will be invited to present their research at the american Diabetes association's 74th Scientific Sessions, June 13-17, 2014, in San Francisco, Calif., and their articles will be published in a special symposium section in the July 2014 issue of Diabetes Care. the editors of Diabetes Care seek presentations and manuscripts specifically devoted to: * State-of-the-art diabetes trials using new pharmacologic methods. * Innovative translational studies that challenge current paradigms of diabetes management. * Studies of novel physiologic targets or pathways; evaluation of changes of metabolomic patterns or alterations of microbiota are of great interest.
