Sessions Meeting Planning Committee
is working to develop challenging and

exciting program content that reaches
across diverse disciplines to teach lessons
of relevance to diabetes.

The call for applications for core research program funding
opportunities will open in January. Applications are due
April 16, 2018.

Core Research Awards
Innovative Basic Science Awards
Support for basic, fundamental research with novel and innovative hypotheses in any area relevant to the etiology or pathophysiology of diabetes and its complications that holds significant
promise for advancing the prevention, cure or treatment of
diabetes. Applications proposing high-risk projects with the potential for high-impact results are encouraged, as are studies that
may not be sufficiently developed for traditional funding sources.

Innovative Clinical or Translational Science Awards
Support for research with novel and innovative hypotheses,
performed in human subjects, or research approaches to accelerate the transition of scientific discoveries into clinical application. Studies supported with these awards must directly involve
human subjects, human samples, and/or human data and offer
considerable promise for advancing the cure, prevention, or
treatment of diabetes. Applications proposing high-risk projects
with the potential for high-impact results are encouraged, as
are studies that may not be sufficiently developed for traditional
funding sources.

Core Development Awards
Junior Faculty Development Awards*
Support for early investigators as they establish independence
as diabetes researchers. Eligible applicants must be full-time independent faculty with less than 10 years of research experience
since their terminal degree, without previous or current National
Institutes of Health support (R00, R01, U01 or equivalent).

*As of January 2018, a tenure track faculty position is no longer
required to be eligible to apply.

Core Training Awards
Postdoctoral Fellowship Awards
Support for postdoctoral researchers (MD, MD/PhD, PhD,
DVM, or equivalent) to provide high-quality research training in
either clinical or basic research, in disciplines and topics relevant
to diabetes, and in an environment conducive to beginning a
career in diabetes research.

Minority Postdoctoral Fellowship Awards†
Support for minority postdoctoral researchers (MD, MD/PhD,
PhD, DVM, or equivalent) who are underrepresented in biomedical research. Fellowships provide support for high-quality research training in either clinical or basic research, in disciplines
and topics relevant to diabetes, and in an environment conducive
to beginning a career in diabetes research.

Minority Undergraduate Internship Awards†
Support for mentored diabetes research experiences for undergraduate minority students who are underrepresented in
biomedical research. Available to current Association-funded
investigators who may apply for a stipend to support the training
of a minority undergraduate student working in their laboratory.
†Eligible minorities are defined as the minority groups that
