She was a consultant for IPSEN, Inc., and for the American Diabetes Association, as the managing editor of the American Diabetes Association/JDRF Type 1 Diabetes Sourcebook. “Dr. Chiang will bring great energy and insight to the Association with new expertise in type 1 diabetes research and care,” said Bob Ratner, MD, Chief Scientific and Medical Officer. “We look forward to her contributions as she moves the Scientific & Medical Division and the Association forward.” Dr. Chiang holds a doctorate in medicine from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. She completed her pediatrics residency at the University of California, Los Angeles, and her fellowship in endocrinology at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Chiang holds professional memberships with the American Diabetes Association, The Endocrine Society, and the Pediatric Endocrine Society. Joshua J. Neumiller Appointed Next Editor-in-Chief of Diabetes Spectrum T he American Diabetes Association is excited to announce that Joshua J. Neumiller, PharmD, CDE, CGP, FASCP, of Washington State University (WSU) in Spokane, has been appointed the next editor-inchief of Diabetes Spectrum. Dr. Neumiller and his editorial team will convene in July 2013 to begin work on the 2014 issues of Diabetes Spectrum. Professional Section Quarterly The mission of Diabetes Spectrum is to assist health care professionals with developing strategies to individualize diabetes treatment and enhance diabetes self-management education, in order to optimize patient outcomes. The editor-in-chief of Diabetes Spectrum is responsible for determining the editorial direction and focus of each issue; overseeing the peer review of both invited and unsolicited content submitted to the journal; and working with the associate editors, the editorial board members, and the Association to develop new issue features, departments, and publication policies. Dr. Neumiller is the first pharmacist to be the editor-in-chief of Diabetes Spectrum. Past top editors have been physicians, nurses, and registered dietitians. Like many of his predecessors, Dr. Neumiller is a certified diabetes educator. He is also a certified geriatric pharmacist, a fellow of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, and a member of the WSU Clinical Trials Research Team in the College of Pharmacy. He received a doctor of pharmacy degree from WSU in 2005 and then went on to complete a twoyear residency in geriatric pharmacy followed by a one-year clinical research fellowship with emphasis in endocrinology, both at WSU. Dr. Neumiller’s research interests focus on issues involving the management of chronic diseases such as diabetes and Parkinson’s disease. Dr. Neumiller’s research, commentaries, and reviews have appeared in numerous journals, including the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy, Current Therapeutic Research, The Diabetes Educator, and Clinical Therapeutics. ® Safe at School Toolkit for Pediatric Providers I f you are a pediatric provider, the American Diabetes ® Association’s free Safe at School Toolkit will help you prepare your young patients with diabetes and their parents for a safe back-to-school experience next fall.
