Sreekumaran Nair, MD, PhD, editor-in-chief of Diabetes. “We believe making previously published Diabetes research available to our readers will help advance future diabetes research.” The legacy content of Diabetes will be freely available until July 3, 2013; after July 3, content published before 2000 will be available only to institutional subscribers or to ADA category 1 professional members who select a subscription to Diabetes as part of their membership package. ADA Relaunches My Health Advisor N ewly relaunched, the Association’s free online My Health Advisor tool helps your patients learn about the steps they can take to lower their risk for developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and diabetes complications. A more intuitive interface and faster processing times makes the new version even easier to use. My Health Advisor is available at diabetes.org/mha. As before, patients enter basic health and lifestyle information into the online tool, which immediately calculates their risk estimates. Patients are then able to resubmit modified lifestyle information, so that they can see how making such changes as quitting smoking or losing 5 to 10 pounds will lower their disease risk and improve their health. A summary report displaying the user’s personal risk estimates and action plan can be printed out and discussed at medical appointments. Action Brief ■ In 2012, the American Diabetes Association and The Endocrine Society convened a workgroup of diabetes experts to address several important issues related to hypoglycemia in diabetes and to update consensus guidelines for clinical practice. The workgroup determined that a glucose level ≤70 mg/dl (≤3.9 mmol/L) should serve as an alert level for hypoglycemia risk, and that glycemic targets should be individualized based on patient characteristics. The workgroup also discussed hypoglycemia-related outcomes, developed strategies for prevention and clinical care of hypoglycemia, and identified current gaps in knowledge. The resulting consensus report will appear in the May issues of Diabetes Care and The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism (and will be published online ahead of print in April). ▲ Professional Section Quarterly http://care.diabetesjournals.org http://diabetes.diabetesjournals.org http://care.diabetesjournals.org http://diabetes.diabetesjournals.org http://www.diabetes.org/mha http://care.diabetesjournals.org http://care.diabetesjournals.org http://professional.diabetes.org/mypro http://professional.diabetes.org/mypro http://diabetes.diabetesjournals.org http://professional.diabetes.org/mypro http://professional.diabetes.org/mypro
