Rig Substitute Cuts Cost To Install, Retrieve Pipe
HOUSTON–By enabling operators to carry out pipe installation and retrieval operations without a rig, Baker Hughes’ Mastiff™ mechanized self-pinning rigless intervention system can reduce the cost of offshore abandonment, workover and drive pipe preinstallation operations, Baker Hughes says. According to the company, Mastiff’s modular design and light weight make it easy to deploy and ideal for operations on platforms with limited load capacity. With a maximum weight of 24,000 pounds, each RIS module can be transported in a standard 40-foot open-top container, Baker Hughes adds. The Mastiff’s mast erection system improves safety and enables the unit to be rigged up or down in 24-48 hours. Hydraulics built into the system allow components to be assembled and disassembled using a self-pinning design, eliminating the need for riding belt operations, and dramatically reducing the risks associated with working at height or manually handling components, Baker Hughes continues. The system, with a 352-ton pulling capacity, can operate safely in wind speeds as high as 50 miles an hour, Baker Hughes reports. The company adds that while performing conductor pipe removal, the system can support cutting and pulling lifts of 50-foot sections of 36inch conductor pipe, inner casing and cement, a significant improvement over casing jack systems, which work with five-foot sections. Produced Water Treater Expands Offshore Fleet
COVINGTON, LA.–Produced water and production services provider CETCO Oilfield Services says it has invested $2.4 million in new equipment to accelerate its growth and address offshore bottlenecks. CETCO adds it has put in place a new management team and hopes to increase its turnover from $4.9 million to $16.2 million during the next three years. During that period, the company predicts it will double the size of its staff in Aberdeen, Scotland. Paul McAlister, the area manager for CETCO Oilfield Services, says, “The new management team of myself, Mark Graham, Ian Robertson and Julia Hughesdon will continue to build the company’s solid reputation within the oil and gas sector for reliable service and continuing technological innovation.” According to McAlister, the new equipment includes two CrudeSep® produced water polishing units, each of which is capable of processing 40,000 barrels a day, as well as two smart-tank oil/water separators. “These technologies are needed to help us address the growing problem of bottlenecked process systems offshore, where improved handling of produced water is needed to free these systems, meet environmental discharge legislation, and help maximize hydrocarbon production,” he says. Study Shows Jobs Lost To NEPA-Related Delays
DENVER–Federal policies regarding oil and gas development on federal lands in the West have cost the region jobs, investments, and state revenues, asserts a study prepared by SWCA Environmental Consultants for the Western Energy Alliance. Economic Impacts of Oil & Gas Development on Federal Lands in the West details the impact of 22 proposed oil and natural gas projects. According to the study, these projects would create 120,905 jobs, $8 billion in wages, $27.5 billion in economic activity, and $139 million in government revenue every year. The total economic impact of these projects during their anticipated 10-15 year lifespan is $383.3 billion, the study adds. The Alliance points out that before proposed oil and gas projects on federal lands can proceed, the Bureau of Land Management or the Forest Service must complete environmental analyses required under the National Environmental Policy Act. “Government delays during the environmental analysis phase are preventing significant job creation and economic activity,” says Kathleen Sgamma, the Alliance’s vice president of government and public affairs. “If we look at projects outstanding for three years, which represent about 1,631 wells a year, we see that federal government delays are preventing the creation of 64,805 jobs, $4.3 billion in wages, and $14.9 billion in economic impact every year.” For information, contact Western Energy Alliance at 303-623-0987 or visit www.westernenergyalliance.org. PCS Joins Dover Corp. To Broaden Distribution
FREDERICK, CO.–Dover Corp. has acquired Production Control Services Inc. and added it to the Norris Production Solutions family of companies, PCS reports. PCS notes that the NPS companies focus on oil and natural gas artificial lift solutions. By aligning its four product lines–plunger lift, well site SCADA, Opti-FlowTM gas lift, and Nitro2GoTM nitrogen generation–with the NPS family, PCS says it will be able to broaden its distribution and better meet the end-toend artificial lift needs of customers in the United States and abroad. As PCS joins NPS, it is merging with Ferguson Beauregard, which Dover has owned since 1988. PCS describes FB as a premium provider of plunger lift and well site automation solutions, including the iChem solar powered chemical injection system and iLevel tank level monitoring product. During the transition, PCS and FB say they will integrate product lines, resources, and personnel. To assure minimal disruption to customers, PCS says the two companies will continue to deliver products independently and under their respective brands for the time being, though they will be managed by a common executive team. PCS points out that Jeff Giacomino, its co-founder and former president, has been named managing director of the combined company. For information, visit www.pcsfb.com. Ì
