FMC Allies With Technip To Reduce Subsea Costs

HOUSTON-FMC Technologies Inc.
and Technip have agreed to launch Forsys
Subsea, a 50/50 joint venture they say
will redefine the way subsea fields are
designed, delivered and maintained.
According to the companies, Forsys
Subsea will have the technical capabilities,
products and systems to significantly reduce the cost of subsea field development
and maximize well performance over the
life of the field.
By combining the technologies of the
parent companies, the joint venture will
reduce the interfaces of the subsea umbilical,
riser and flowline systems (SURF) and
subsea production and processing systems
(SPS). The partners add that Forsys will
simplify the seabed layout, reducing complexity, accelerating time to first oil, and
maximizing sustainable peak production.
With the expertise and experience of

its parent companies, the partners continue,
Forsys will focus on:
* Early involvement in the concept
selection phase of front-end engineering
and design, when ability to influence
cost is greatest;
* Integrated life-of-field well surveillance, monitoring, data interpretation and
advisory services; and
* Joint research and development to
drive technological innovations that will
boost efficiency and further reduce development costs.
In addition, the alliance will be positioned to deliver and install a seamless
subsea infrastructure from seabed to topsides by eliminating interfaces and integrating SPS with SURF, which the partners
say will lead to greater reliability.

ESG Advances Design Of Microseismic Arrays

HOUSTON-By combining low frequency, force-balance accelerometers with
2.0 hertz and/or 4.5 hertz geophone sensors
with standard 15 hertz geophones, the
latest-generation SuperCableTM temporary
downhole microseismic array now available from ESG Solutions can detect more
than six orders of event magnitudes.
ESG describes the SuperCable as a
cost-effective alternative to traditional wireline array and surface deployments that
helps operators better understand activities
in the reservoir, and their effects on nearby
surface infrastructure, for up to a year.
Variable spacing of geophones allows

for detecting small events with sensors
situated close to the reservoir, and larger
events with sensors situated closer to
surface, the company details.
The company adds that SuperCable
arrays can be moved and redeployed,
making it easy to situate them on or
around pads to optimize performance,
and provide maximum detectability and
accuracy. Since the arrays are GPS time
synchronized, users can deploy multiple
arrays to monitor reservoir activity in
real time, ESG says.
