API Finalizes New Standard
For Measuring Oil In Tanks
WASHINGTON-The American Petroleum Institute has published a new onshore
safety standard for measuring crude oil.
The organization says the standard, API
MPMS Chapter 18.2, Custody Transfer of
Crude Oil from Lease Tanks Using Alternative Measurement Methods, provides safe
and accurate options for the custody transfer
of crude oil from production lease tanks.
"This standard is a great example of
what can be done when industry, regulators
and all key stakeholders work together
to achieve the common goal of improving
safety for industry operations," says Lisa
Salley, API's vice president for global
industry services. "This standard enables
personnel to take measurements of crude
oil from a lease tank without opening
the hatch on the tank, thus protecting
them from potentially hazardous vapors
and gases."
API says the standard integrates custody
transfer methods from other API standards.

Weatherford Valve Certiﬁed For Deepwater Completions
HOUSTON-Weatherford International
PLC announces that its new model WUDP10 deep-set safety valve has been certified
to V1 standards under American Petroleum
Institute Specification 14A.
The valve is designed for deepwater
applications and is effective at depths exceeding 12,000 feet, Weatherford says.
Because it operates independently of tubing
pressure, the valve also can be set in
shallow applications, the company mentions.
