OneTrip® Reduces Cost
Of Offshore BOP Testing
HOUSTON-To reduce the time and
costs associated with blowout preventer
testing, Samoco Oil Tools has introduced
its OneTrip® BOP testing tool. The company
says it collaborated with Shell Offshore
Engineering to engineer, manufacture and
test the tool.
Federal mandates require operators to
test the integrity of their BOP equipment
every 14 days, Samoco notes. Traditional
testing methods involved separately staged
subtests of the BOP's large ram, small ram
and shearing capabilities, meaning tools
have to run multiple trips along the BOP
stack. Samoco estimates the tests would
interrupt rig operations for 36-72 hours.
OneTrip accelerates testing by enabling
the large ram, small ram and shearing capabilities to be tested during a single trip
down the hole, Samoco says.
"OneTrip is proven to provide significant
savings to drilling operators by cutting
BOP testing time in half," says MJ Hellail,
the company's chief executive officer. "Plus,
it has a universal design that performs with
any BOP configuration. We can customize
the tool's dimensions to match a rig's BOP

New Patent Covers Tool For Stopping Tank Fires
LACOMBE, LA.-Petro Guardian LLC
has received a U.S. patent covering its
Static Lasso®, an in-tank static suppression
and collection device used in production
and disposal storage tanks to prevent static-induced fires.

Liberty Oilﬁeld Services Secures Proppant Supply
THE WOODLANDS, TX.-Smart Sand
Inc. says it has entered into a multiyear
master product purchase agreement (PPA)
with Liberty Oilfield Services LLC for
finer mesh sands.
The PPA has a take-or-pay structure,
Smart Sand notes, adding that Liberty
will borrow its railcars to transport the
purchased sand.

Shell Selects TechnipFMC
For Gulf of Mexico Project
HOUSTON-TechnipFMC announces
it has been awarded a contract by Shell
Offshore Inc. to deliver, integrate and install
the subsea production system (SPS) and
subsea riser, jumper and flowline (SURF)
equipment for the first phase of the Kaikias
deepwater project in the Gulf of Mexico.
TechnipFMC says it collaborated with
Shell during the front-end planning and
design for Kaikias to engineer solutions
and execution opportunities aimed at reducing the overall cost and development
time. Under the contract's terms, TechnipFMC indicates it will manufacture,
install and integrate proprietary SPS and
SURF equipment designed to improve
project economics by optimizing field production and minimizing lead times.
The company says the project includes
the first deepwater Gulf of Mexico application of its compact pipeline end manifold
and horizontal connection system technologies with flexible jumpers.
