for 2018, which is 10,000 boe/d and $100
million in earnings before interest, taxes,
depreciation, amortization and exploration
expenses (EBITDAX). Bracken says Lonestar will drill 12 or 13 wells this year
with one operated rig and will expand
that to 18 drilled wells next year by adding
a second rig for part of 2018.
"We have taken some of the risk out
by being pretty heavy with our hedging
program," he relates. "Seventy-five percent
of our 2018 production is hedged at north
of $51/bbl next year."
Although Lonestar is focused primarily
on the black oil window of the Eagle
Ford, Bracken says that is only because it
offers the best price at this time. He notes
that the Horned Frog area in LaSalle
County primarily yields condensate.
The company also placed the Wildcat
B1H well on line in May in Brazos County,
which is a combination oil/condensate well
on the eastern side of the play. It established
a 30-day maximum production rate of 2,123
boe/d, consisting of 890 barrels of oil (42
percent), 764 barrels of NGLs (36 percent)
and 2,891 Mcf of natural gas (22 percent).
The well's 60-day rate averaged 1,867 boe/d
(44 percent oil, 33 percent NGLs and 23
percent natural gas).
"That is the highest producing well in
our company's history, and I believe the
highest producing well in Brazos County,"
Bracken lauds. "Those rates were achieved
on a 20⁄64-inch choke. We have a fairly large
position in Texas' Brazos and Robertson
counties in the eastern region of the Eagle
Ford Shale trend, which is a deeper section
at 11,000 feet or more. The Wildcat B1H
is close to where Apache drilled 14 wells
in 2015. We evaluated those Apache wells,
and the Wildcat B1H was materially better
than other wells in the area."
Technical Improvements
Lonestar Resources drilled three wells
this year in the Burns Ranch area, implementing several technical improvements
that have resulted in some impressive results, according to Bracken.
"We have paid attention to geosteering
to keep the lateral in the most prolific rock,"
he explains. "This is also the first set of
wells that we have used diverters. These
wells are producing 35 percent more."
The Eagle Ford is a heterogeneous formation with high degrees of variation in
stresses, he explains. "The industry has
tended to tighten spacing, as close as 200
feet," Bracken continues. "We have taken
a different view. We believe that is too
stage intensive. We have moved stage
spacing to 300 feet and are relying on engineered completions and log-derived data.
We are setting the perforations next to the

oil using a pair of stress regimes."
Using a polylactic acid as a diverting
agent, he says Lonestar is putting half the
stage on the stressed part of the rock and
the other half on the rock that is not stressed,
so that it is breaking new rock. "We are applying a lot more science to determine
where we put the perforations and how we
pump the stages," he contends.
It also increased the proppant concentrations to 2,000 pounds per foot in the
three Burns Ranch wells, which includes
the use of diverters, and more conservatively
choke-managed production to maintain
lower gas-to-oil ratios in what it is calling
its "generation five" wells.

"At 57 percent pressure drawdown, our
generation three wells had recovered 40,000
barrels of oil," Bracken offers. "By contrast,
our generation five wells have estimated ultimate recoveries of more than 70,000
barrels of oil with 57 percent pressure drawdown-an improvement of 75 percent. We
believe that the rapid increase in GOR that
we experienced in our generation three wells
impaired oil EURs by prematurely reducing
flowing pressures below bubble point."
According to Bracken, every well that
Lonestar is drilling has a lateral length of
between 8,000 and 10,000 feet.
