date, API continues. NGL production in
September averaged 3.7 MMbbl/d, the
highest September output on record.
According to the report, this was up
1.1 percent from August, 9.2 percent
from September 2016, 7.3 percent from
third quarter 2016, and 3.8 percent from
year to date 2016.
API notes that at 940, the BakerHughes average rig count in September
posted its second consecutive monthly
decline. Although down 0.7 percent from
August, API says the rig count still was
up 84.7 percent from September 2016.
Total petroleum deliveries increased
2.4 percent from September 2016, but
were down 1.6 percent from August to
average 20.2 MMbbl/d in September,
the report continues. API says that was
the highest September demand since
2007.
For third quarter 2017, API says total
petroleum deliveries increased 2.1
percent from the same period last year
to nearly 20.4 MMbbl/d. Year to date
petroleum demand was up 1.2 percent
from 2016.
API reports total motor gasoline
deliveries dropped 1.5 percent from
August and were down 0.8 percent from
September 2016 at 9.4 MMbbl/d, but
remained the second highest September
deliveries on record. API says gasoline
demand increased 0.4 percent from third
quarter 2016 and 0.4 percent year to date.
Distillate deliveries, meanwhile,
increased 3.4 percent from September
2016, but were down 2.1 percent from
August 2017, to average slightly above
4.0 MMbbl/d in September, according
to the report. For the third quarter, API
says distillate deliveries increased 3.7
percent compared with 2016 and were
up 2.3 percent year to date.
U.S. total petroleum imports in
September averaged 10.2 MMbbl/d, up
5.2 percent from August, but down 0.3
percent from September 2016. API says
total petroleum imports were down 4.2
percent compared with the third quarter
2017, but were up 0.8 percent year to
date.
Crude oil imports, meanwhile,
decreased 7.2 percent from September
2016, averaging 7.5 MMbbl/d, the
report indicates. Crude imports
remained nearly flat from August, were
down 3.6 percent compared with third
quarter 2016, and were up 2.0 percent
year to date, API says.
API says crude oil stocks ended
September at 466.3 million barrels, the
second highest September inventory
level since 1930. Crude stocks were up
0.8 percent from August, but were down
0.6 percent from September 2016. r

Gas Storage Levels
Increase By 244 Bcf
WASHINGTON-Underground
natural gas storage in the United States
stood at 3.710 trillion cubic feet on Oct.
20, 1.2 percent below the five year
average, according to the U.S. Energy
Information Administration. That was
up 244 billion cubic feet from the 3.466
Tcf in storage on Sept. 22, which was
1.2 percent above the five-year average.
The Oct. 20 storage number was 189
Bcf less than a year ago, when gas
storage stood at 3.899 Tcf.
According to EIA, gas storage in the
East Region was 915 Bcf on Oct. 20,
0.4 percent above the five-year average
and 67 Bcf more than on Sept. 22, when
storage stood at 848 Bcf, which was 1.3
percent above the five-year average.
East Region gas storage on Oct. 20 was
22 Bcf less than it was a year ago.
Gas storage in the Midwest Region
stood at 1.082 Tcf on Oct. 20, 1.6
percent above the five-year average and
118 Bcf more than the 964 Bcf in
storage on Sept. 22, which was 0.6
percent above the five year average.
Oct. 20 gas storage in the Midwest
Region was 30 Bcf less than a year ago.
In the Mountain Region, EIA says,
gas storage was 224 Bcf on Oct. 20, 3.7
percent above the five-year average and
7 Bcf more than the 217 Bcf stored on
Sept. 22, which was 7.4 percent above
the five year average. Gas storage in the
Mountain Region was 21 Bcf less than a
year ago.
Gas storage in the Pacific Region
was 315 Bcf on Oct. 20, 11.5 percent
below the five-year average and 8 Bcf
more than the 307 Bcf stored on Sept.
22, which was 9.4 percent below the
five-year average. Pacific Region gas
storage on Oct. 20 was down 11 Bcf
from a year ago.
In the South-Central Region, gas
storage levels on Oct. 20 were 1.174
Tcf, 2.8 percent below the five-year
average and up 44 Bcf from the 1.130
Tcf in storage on Sept. 22, which was
3.7 percent above the five-year average.
The Oct. 20 gas storage level for the
South-Central Region was down 105
Bcf from a year ago. r
