At 9:30 a.m., an opening ceremony
commemorating the 50th OTC features
Patrick Pouyanné, chairman and chief
executive officer of Total; Ryan Lance,
chairman and CEO of ConocoPhillips;
Solange da Silva Guedes, chief exploration
and production officer at Petrobras; Harry
Brekelmans, project and technology director for Royal Dutch Shell; Jeff Miller,
president and CEO of Halliburton; and
Clay Williams, chairman and CEO of
National Oilwell Varco.
A ribbon pulling immediately follows
the opening ceremony with members of
the OTC Chairman's Panel on Energy
Transformation; including Carlos Ghosn,
chairman and CEO of Renault-NissanMitsubishi; Eldar Saetre, president and
CEO of Statoil; Remi Eriksen, group
president and CEO of DNV GL; and
Ernest Moniz, Massachusetts Institute of
Technology professor and former U.S.
energy secretary.

scientists and engineers to develop innovative technologies that have unleashed

the potential of offshore energy sources
needed for global growth and progress,"
Pouyanné says. "I'd like to invite my
peers to join me in celebrating this momentous occasion at OTC 2018."
Also included in the first day's events
is the 50th OTC Legacy Luncheon, which
celebrates the success of OTC and recognizes the volunteers and exhibitors
who have made OTC a premier industry
event, and a networking event from 4-6
p.m. that looks at some of the key milestones that have shaped the offshore industry over the past five decades.
All About Technology
OTC is all about technology, and Beydoun says the main showcase of innovation
is found in OTC's 500,000 net square feet
of exhibits, which open at 9 a.m. each day
Monday through Thursday. More than 2,000
companies from some four dozen countries
will display the latest solutions in equipment,
tools, materials and services.
OTC is again recognizing a number
of the newest technologies on exhibit at
this year's show with the Spotlight on
New Technology Award, according to
Beydoun. Spotlight Award recipients will
be honored at 4 p.m. on Monday in the
NRG Center's Rotunda Lobby. To qualify,

technologies must be original, less than
two years old and proven through fullscale application or prototype testing, he
explains. They also have to demonstrate
broad industry appeal, and provide a potentially significant impact that goes beyond existing technologies.
OTC also is presenting the Spotlight
on Small Business Award. In addition to
the criteria for the New Technology
Award, recipients must be independently-owned and operated or a nonprofit
with no more than 300 employees.
"For the past five decades, OTC has
been a global hub for people and companies
that seek to learn about and share the
latest technological advancements in offshore energy," states Beydoun. "OTC was
created as a place to cultivate innovation
with the future in mind, and the unparalleled work displayed by our Spotlight
Award Winners exemplifies this ideal."
This year's Spotlight on New Technology Awards are:
* Aegion Coating Services' ACS™
HT-200 ultra-high temperature subsea
wet insulation system for pipelines, risers,
field joints and subsea equipment.
* The Ampelmann motion-compensated Icemann™ N-type gangway system
for safe personnel transfer in harsh winter
