INDEPENDENTS' GUIDE TO OTC
Topics are phased deepwater field development approaches; new techniques for
offshore field decommissioning; technologies being used to reduce costs, uncertainties
and risks in offshore exploration, development and production; cost-effective production chemistry solutions for sustainable
production; data analytics and modeling;
growth in offshore U.S. wind energy activities; and the Aasta Hansteen project,
the deepest field development in the Norwegian Sea and the first spar platform installed in a harsh environment.
Wednesday, Thursday Sessions
Panel discussions are scheduled for
both the morning and afternoon technical
sessions on Wednesday, May 8. Moderated
by Julie Wilson, a director at Wood
Mackenzie, and Sandeep Khurana, senior
manager at Granherne Inc., the morning
panel will consider the factors that have
contributed to deepwater success in North
and South America, and the common
challenges operators face across the Americas region. Speakers are Carlos Portela,
president of Ecopetrol America; Chris
Golden, senior vice president at Equinor;
Cindy Yeilding, senior vice president at
BP; Elizabeth Schwarze, vice president
of global exploration at Chevron; Erik
Oswald, vice president of the Americas
at ExxonMobil; and Tim Duncan, CEO
of Talos Energy.
Also on the docket Wednesday morning
are technical sessions on new high-pressure/high-temperature solutions and deployments (part one), innovative topsides
processing and design, innovations in costeffective subsea processing, new developments in gas hydrate production, and advances in offshore floating wind turbines.
The theme of Wednesday afternoon's
panel is "The state of the seismic industry:
Preparing for the upturn." Nikki Martin,
president of the International Association
of Geophysical Contractors, is the moderator. Panelists are Duncan Eley, CEO
of Polarcus; Erik Finnstrom, senior vice
president of new ventures at TGS; Maurice
Nessim, president of WesternGeco; Rune
Pedersen, president and CEO of PGS;
and Sophie Zurquiyah, CEO of CGG.
Other concurrent sessions Wednesday
afternoon focus on subsea electrical and
production systems, HP/HT solutions and
deployments (part two), research and applications in underwater technology (sponsored by the Society for Underwater

Technology), floating LNG technology
and offshore gas monetization, fluid flow
and thermal behavior modeling for flow
assurance engineering, and advances in
gas hydrate production.
A panel discussion on successful applications and future advances in big data
highlight Thursday morning's technical
program agenda. The panel includes Amr
Elnashai, vice chancellor and vice president for research and technology transfer
at the University of Houston; Christopher
Wiernicki, chairman, president and CEO
of ABS; Clay Williams, chairman, president and CEO of NOV; Greg Conlon,
executive vice president and chief development officer at KBR; and Jannicke
Nilsson, executive vice president and
COO at Equinor.
Thursday morning sessions also feature
presentations covering offshore safety,
erosion and corrosion monitoring and
mitigation, offshore marine and hydrokinetic energy, advances in chemical enhanced oil recovery, site investigation
challenges for offshore renewables, and
offshore carbon dioxide storage.
In Thursday afternoon's panel session,
Chevron profiles the Big Foot development
project in the Gulf of Mexico, which includes the world's deepest tension leg
platform. Moderated by Chevron engineers
Bob McCavitt (retired) and Thomas Miller,
speakers are David Knight, Big Foot
project manager at Chevron; Jim Reiners,
Big Foot transportation and installation
lead at Chevron; Renard Falcon, Big Foot
installation manager at Chevron; and
Todd Jones, Big Foot facilities manager
at Chevron.
Other sessions on the final afternoon
of OTC feature strategies to effectively
monetize offshore projects, next-generation
deepwater development concepts, metocean advances, smart completion technologies, new drilling technologies, and
standardization in the offshore industry.
Luncheons, Breakfasts
OTC topical breakfasts and luncheons
provide industry leaders the opportunity
to inform attendees about offshore trends,
technologies and regulatory policies.
Three concurrent breakfasts are scheduled
each morning beginning at 7:30, with
three luncheons daily at 12:15 p.m.
Breakfasts on the first day of OTC
feature Petrobras CEO Roberto Castello
Branco discussing the organization's new

agenda; Gordon Birrell, BP's COO for
production, transformation and carbon,
assessing the industry challenge of meeting
growing energy demand while reducing
emissions; and Anthony Beebe, senior
vice president of project management
and engineering at Northern Offshore,
and Doug McEwan, director of new builds
and reactiviations at Borr Drilling, highlighting keys to successfully reactivating
mobile offshore drilling units placed into
layup during the downturn.
In Monday's topical luncheons, Brazil
Mines & Energy Minister Bento Albuquerque details oil and gas opportunities
in Brazilian waters; Chevron's Greg Kusinski briefs attendees on how Chevron is
delivering major capital projects through
partnerships; and Equinor's Anders Opedal, TechnipFMC's Ann Christin Andersen,
and the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate's
Bente Nylan summarize developments
on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
Tuesday's breakfasts feature Luis Morelli, president of ANH, spotlighting investment opportunities offshore Colombia;
Shawn Bennett, deputy assistant secretary
for the Office of Oil & Natural Gas at the
U.S. Department of Energy, outlining the
DOE's offshore research portfolio; and
Lance Kinney, executive director of the
Texas Board of Professional Engineers,
and Wesley McCoy, enforcement coordinator at the Texas Board of Professional
Geoscientists, discussing professional ethics
in engineering and geology.
In luncheon sessions on Tuesday, Paulo
Ruiz, CEO of Siemens Oil & Gas Solutions,
explains why natural gas should be the
