THE 2007 SAFETY AND PHILANTHROPY REPORT DONOR SOCIETY EVENTS: AOPA AND THE AOPA AIR SAFETY FOUNDATION AOPA Air Safety Foundation’s top supporters shared their love of flying and insights for ensuring long-term vitality of GA at important donor society events in 2007. The stunning art deco facility and amazing aircraft collection at Fantasy of Flight set the stage for the March 8 event in Polk City, Florida. Thomas W. Haas, a pilot-philanthropist and member of the AOPA Air Safety Foundation Board of Visitors, introduced AOPA President Phil Boyer to the guests. Nearly 70 attendees heard Boyer and AOPA Air Safety Foundation Executive Director Bruce Landsberg discuss the challenges facing GA. The landmark Drake Hotel in Chicago hosted more than 50 attendees at an invitation-only dinner on April 30 focusing on the battle over FAA funding. The evening was organized by a committee of pilot-philanthropists including Ned W. Bennett, John P. Calamos, Sr., David MacNeil, Zoe Dell Nutter, Jay Proops, James W. Robins, and Jay Tuthill. National Development Committee co-chair Thomas W. Haas graciously funded the event at which Phil Boyer also recognized local aviation leader Bill Enxing with a 50-year AOPA member pin and an AOPA watch. Nearly 60 members of the AOPA President’s Council gathered for the Second Annual President’s Council Dinner on October 4 during AOPA Expo in Hartford, Connecticut. Members enjoyed fine cuisine and the good company of AOPA and AOPA Air Safety Foundation senior leadership and management. PRESIDENT’S DINNER 17
