AOPA 2007 Safety and Philanthropy Report - (Page 4) AOPA AIR SAFETY FOUNDATION: ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND OUTREACH A watershed year in online safety education 2007 will stand as a watershed year in online GA safety education with a huge 40 percent increase in online course completions. There were more than 270,000 course completions. Even better, nearly 86,000 pilots took courses for the first time last year. But even more impressive is that almost all of those first-time coursetakers—about 82,000—came back for more! ASF Safety Quizzes made possible by the Sporty’s Foundation also continued steady growth with nearly 236,000 quizzes taken. more convenient to add useful interactive features to our courses. There’s also the growing curriculum of important course subjects, mail, and e-mail campaigns to inform pilots. But perhaps the biggest reason is you, our donors. Your increased generosity has enabled our designers and instructors to create more and better courses that keep pilots coming back. AOPA Expo 2007 available for viewing 24 hours a day worldwide. Major update to TAA research: We issued a major update to our ongoing study of Technologically Advanced Aircraft and their effects on the GA safety record. TAAs can offer significant safety tools, but pilots must be properly trained in using them in normal and emergency operations. Wide rollout of our Online Safety Center Transcripts: Pilots now can track their own learning progress online. It’s a great motivator to keep coming back to explore more safety information. The continued expansion of the Real Pilot Stories series: This excellent series vividly uses text, pictures and audio to tell gripping real-life stories of lessons learned by GA pilots. Major 2007 milestones Among our many achievements in 2007: Live safety seminars attendance records: With attendance at some sessions nearing 500, our live seminars are one of our most popular and effective programs.
