During every airshow performance, Tucker said he strives to “share the magic of flight with the audience,” but it is just as important for flight instructors to share that magic with their students. Fostering the passion and motivation for flight training can help students through learning plateaus. Be a teammate. Hop in an aircraft with Tucker and instantly become his teammate, treated as an equal with tasks and responsibilities to help ensure the safe outcome of the flight. “That’s what pilots are—teammates,” he said. Instructors should emphasize to their students that flight training “is a journey, and they’re on the journey together,” Tucker said. Enable the student to face his or her fears. Fear throughout flight training has plagued many students, including Tucker, who overcame his early fear of flying by learning aerobatics. Instructors are key to helping students overcome those fears, and Tucker encourages all CFIs to help their students “open the door
