AOPA AIR SAFETY INSTITUTE SAFETY ALERT ON
AVOIDING MIDAIRS

Although the frequency of midair collisions has seen a
decrease over the past few years, when they occur the
outcome is often tragic. Most recently, a Cessna 172
and a Sabreliner jet collided near San Diego, California.
While the NTSB is investigating this accident, the Air
Safety Institute recommends that pilots review these
steps to minimize the risks and improve their safety

FLIGHT WATCH FREQUENCY DISCONTINUED

The dedicated 122.0 Flight Watch radio frequency
will be discontinued as of September 24. En Route
Flight Advisory Service will continue to be offered
over published Flight Service frequencies and on
122.2, the universal Flight Service frequency. After its
discontinuation, 122.0 will be monitored for six months

so pilots may be directed to other frequencies appropriate
for their flight. The decision to discontinue the Flight
Watch frequency was made as increasing numbers of pilots
switch from traditional Flight Service assistance to more
automated and Web-based information sources.
AIR SAFETY INSTITUTE RELEASES 24TH NALL REPORT

AOPA's Air Safety Institute has released the 24th Joseph T. Nall Report-a comprehensive analysis
of GA accidents during 2012. It's accompanied by the 2013-2014 GA Accident Scorecard, a summary
documenting unexpected improvements in GA Safety (airsafetyinstitute.org/nall).
