ENTER THE CAPTAIN JEPP CHALLENGE
If you're excited about aviation safety and interested in
honing your aviation skills and knowledge-to boot-then
take part in the quarterly Captain Jepp Challenge. AOPA
and Jeppesen recently teamed up to create a lineup of free
courses, videos, webinars, and in-person events that serve
as entries in monthly drawings for gift cards and the grand
prize drawing for a trip for two to EAA AirVenture 2017
(two-night stay and airfare included). A combination of
free safety programs from the AOPA Air Safety Institute
and Jeppesen highlight decision making, weather, charts,
and more. Jump into the challenge for your chance to win

been chosen. The next drawing will be September 30! New
challenges launch in October and January.
LOCKHEED MARTIN FLIGHT SERVICE CHANGES NAME
Effective August 15, Lockheed Martin Flight Service has
been renamed Leidos Flight Service, but the services
that the company provides to pilots will remain the
same. The name change reflects Leidos shareholders'
approval to complete a previously announced agreement
with Lockheed Martin, which separated and combined
its Information Systems & Global Solutions business
segment with Leidos Holdings, Inc. Data on file with
Lockheed including telephone numbers, user passwords,

profiles, and other information pilots have exchanged with
Lockheed, CSRA, and DUATS will not be affected
(aopa.org/lockheed-martin-flight-service-name).
PRIVATE PILOT GROUND SCHOOL
COLLABORATION ONLINE
Online and local students can work together in the
same classroom thanks to the WINGsReality EDU live
Private Pilot Ground School classroom via the Internet.
The program allows remote students to attend classes
each week and use the school's website to complete
assignments, quizzes, mid-term exams, and projects.
Local and remote students have opportunities to
collaborate on group projects, and report results back
to the class (wingsrealityedu.com/programs/privatepilot-ground-school).
REMINDER: NEW AIRMAN STANDARDS NOW IN EFFECT
New airman certification standards for private pilot
certificate or instrument rating applicants took effect
June 15. They can be reviewed on the FAA's airman testing
website (www.faa.gov/training_testing/testing/acs),
which also features an online safety course to help pilots
familiarize themselves with the new standards (www.
faasafety.gov/gslac/ALC/CourseLanding.aspx?cID=449).
