CFI News NTSB RELEASES ANIMATIONS OF 'SEE AND AVOID' LIMITATIONS To illustrate how difficult it can be for pilots to spot converging aircraft that may present a midair collision risk, the NTSB created a series of animations depicting the pilots' visual field of view from each of the four airplanes involved in two midair collisions that were investigated by the NTSB in 2015. http://go.usa.gov/x8c5G DRONE PILOTS WELCOME AT AOPA On February 21, AOPA embraced drone pilots into its membership mix. The section called "What's New and Upcoming in Airman Testing" provides information on new and planned changes for flight and knowledge test requirements. www.faa.gov/training_testing/testing FAA CLARIFIES NAVIGATION EQUIPMENT USE ON PRACTICAL TEST In the Private Pilot-Airplane Airman Certification Standards (ACS) that replaced the practical test standards in June 2016, ACS Navigation skill element PA.VI.B.S1 required the applicant be able to use an installed electronic navigation system. This spurred concern from the flight training industry that applicants could no longer take a private pilot practical test in an airplane without an electrical system. The FAA recently explained the change had been unintended, and that portable navigation equipment is still permitted. This initiative is the result of collaboration between the institute and several GA companies and organizations to bring GA safety education resources together in one location online.
