WEATHER GUIDANCE UPDATED

FLIGHT SERVICE TRANSITIONS TO LEIDOS PILOT WEB PORTAL

FAA Advisory Circular AC 00-45: Aviation Weather Services supplements its
companion manual, AC 00-6: Aviation Weather, which documents weather theory
and its application to aviation. The circular was revised in early January to provide
changes to weather information products. Among the updates you'll find guidance
and information on graphical forecast, terminal convective forecasts, and DUATS,
and the discontinuation of area forecasts.

The FAA will discontinue the Direct User Access Terminal
Service (DUATS II) Program, effective May 16, 2018.
Internet services, including access to weather, aeronautical
information, flight plan filing, and automated services will
remain available at no charge to pilots at 800wxbrief.com.
If you are currently a DUATS user please register with
800wxbrief.com to access the Leidos Pilot Web Portal. The FAA
will work with current DUATS II providers on this transition.

FAA ALERTS OF RUNWAY INCURSION RISKS
Safety Alert for Operators SAFO 17012, warns pilots of high-risk category A or B runway
incursions and potential collisions in the first two-thirds of an active runway. The SAFO
recommends pilots actively listen to ATC, remain clear of the runway hold lines (unless they
are certain to have received a clearance to cross the runway, line up and wait, or takeoff), and
ensure there is no aircraft that could overfly their aircraft and that the runway is completely
clear before entering it for takeoff.
