2010/2011 Philanthropy Report | 4 Other Opportunities ENDOWMENTS : Creating an endowment provides an ongoing source of funding for the AOPA Foundation’s work and is an exceptional way to provide a lasting gift. It is an excellent way to honor a loved one, demonstrate your passion for aviation, and ensure that efforts to improve safety, protect airports, grow the pilot population, and improve general aviation’s image continue long into the future. Named endowments can be created with a gift of $10,000 or more. Several donors have added to their endowments over the years and have reached silver and platinum endowment levels. To find out more about how your lasting gift can help the future of general aviation, please contact the Foundation. LIFE MEMBER : AOPA life membership may be purchased for oneself or given as a gift for a one-time donation of $2,500, of which $2,000 is tax deductible. Payments can be made in a lump sum or in quarterly installments. In addition to a lifetime membership in AOPA, members of this group receive a special AOPA membership card, lapel pin, and personalized certificate. FRIEND OF GA : Friends of general aviation help protect our freedom to fly by making secure, automatic contributions to the AOPA Foundation. Charged to a credit card each month, these contributions are tax deductible. Participants can change or cancel their contributions at any time. DONOR EVENTS : AOPA Foundation contributors are special individuals who have turned their desire to protect general aviation into action by attending or hosting an event. While Foundation donors come from every imaginable field and walk of life, they all share a passion for aviation. Throughout the year, we create opportunities for AOPA Foundation contributors to meet, interact, and share ideas with one another and with Foundation leadership. We hope you will join us at as many of these events as possible. It is a great way to stay connected with the work of the AOPA Foundation and your fellow pilots, aircraft owners, and aviation enthusiasts. A NIGHT FOR FLIGHT : At the Foundation’s first inaugural benefit and auction at AOPA’s Aviation Summit in 2010, the generosity of supporters was overwhelming. In support of A Night for Flight, nearly 80 donors had winning bids on items donated by individuals and companies. Another special thank you goes to the sponsors and donors who attended the benefit dinner aboard the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California. Thanks to everyone who made the event a resounding success, enabling us to raise $250,000. Join us for the 2011 event in Hartford, Connecticut. THE AOPA FOUNDATION MISSION : The AOPA Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable, educational, and scientific organization, educates the public about the value of general aviation. The AOPA Foundation works to improve aviation safety through the Air Safety Institute, preserve community airports, and encourage learning to fly for career and personal benefit—all in the interest of ensuring the future of general aviation in America. ˚ Deceased http://aopa.giftlegacy.com/ https://www.aopa.org/forms/foundation/life_member.cfm https://www.aopa.org/forms/foundation/sustainer.cfm http://www.aopa.org/summit/night-for-flight.html
