BY BRUCE LANDSBERG SUMMARY In these three accidents, pilots took off from grass strips at vacation destinations. > A Piper Cherokee 140 used nearly all the 3,200foot runway at a grass field and failed to outclimb terrain. The pilot had previously mentioned troubleshooting a "low power problem." > A Piper Lance took off over maximum gross weight on a hot day and crashed a little more than a half mile from the end of the runway. > A Cessna P210-heavily loaded, but within weightand-balance limits-stalled after takeoff from a ranch airstrip.
