PRESIDENTIAL SESSIONS
TOPIC
Treating Sexual Trauma
Members of the armed forces
experiencing military sexual trauma
(MST) face considerable mental
health issues, particularly PTSD. In
both paper sessions and symposia,
presenters will discuss innovative and evidencebased interventions to address the needs of
military personnel affected by MST.
Treating Children and Spouses
Issues facing returning veterans not
only affect them but can burden
their families, causing depression
and anxiety as well as physical
health problems. Presenters will
address assessment procedures and effective
therapeutic interventions to ameliorate the
effects of deployment on spouses and children.
Assessment and Treatment
It is estimated that the suicide rate
of veterans of the wars in Iraq and
Afghanistan is three times as high
as that of the civilian population.
Presenters will discuss innovative
measures to assess the mental health sequelae
of combat experience and evidence-based but
innovative means of intervening in the effects of
combat and deployment on the mental health of
military personnel and veterans.
Times and dates are subject to change.
