Our Mission to Serve Our mission is to advance the creation, communication, and application of psychological knowledge to benefit society and improve people's lives. APA supports the broad spectrum of member interests, including the areas of science, practice, education, health, and human welfare. Advancing the Science of Psychology APA has a strong commitment to promoting research funding and the dissemination of psychological science scholarship. We seek to advance the visibility and influence of psychological science by working closely with federal policymakers, collaborating with other scientific societies, and reaching out to the public. APA supports the scientific community through advocacy work; the development of workshops, conferences, and career advancement activities; the recognition of excellence and achievements in the science of psychology; and the provision of advanced training, networking opportunities, outreach programs, and resources for researchers. Supporting the Practice of Psychology chological services in all settings through a wide variety of activities. The APA Practice Organization represents licensed psychologists through legislative advocacy, legal and regulatory strategies, marketplace activities, and public education, and by providing information, resources, and products for practitioners. Promoting Education in Psychology APA works with educational institutions to support programs and initiatives that enhance the quality of education and training of psychologists, the teaching of psychology, and the application of psychology to schools and education. APA promotes advocacy and public policy as they relate to psychology education, sponsors an annual forum on education, and fosters collaborations that focus on the application of psychology in schools. Benefiting Society and Improving People's Lives APA applies the science and practice of psychology to the fundamental problems of human welfare and social justice and the promotion of equitable and just treatment of all segments of society through education, training, federal public policy advocacy, and public information. We address discrimination and other inequities for children, youth, and families; women; ethnic minorities; lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals; older adults; people with disabilities; and other underrepresented groups. APA improves health and human welfare by addressing issues such as HIV/ AIDS; end of life; socioeconomic status; violence prevention; and work, health, and stress. Serving as an International Partner As part of the global psychology community, APA seeks to keep its members knowledgeable about the international scope of psychology. Coordinated by its Office of International Affairs, APA promotes international exchange and collaboration through information resources, Web and newsletter communication, international representation at international conferences and the UN, and outreach to APA's more than 6,500 international members and affiliates.
