FACULTY POSITIONS—OPEN RANK: Two faculty positions at the associate or professor levels with a 12-month appointment are being sought by the Department of Health Behavior, School of Public Health, University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). An established record of research and publications in the modification of health-related behavior risk factors is required. The department has established research programs in substance misuse and behavioral economics; tobacco control; obesity and physical activity; STI/HIV prevention; child health; family care giving; and risk and resilience in emerging adults. Candidates with theoretical frameworks relevant to health behaviors such as behavioral economics, experience with multidisciplinary collaboration, and strong quantitative skills are encouraged to apply. The applicant must have a Ph.D., Dr.PH., or Sc.D. in the social, behavioral, or related sciences. A record of publications, extramural funding, and excellence in teaching is required for the associate professor or professor ranks. Successful candidates are expected to pursue independent research, participate in collaborative research programs as appropriate to their interests, and teach in the department’s MPH and Ph.D. degree programs. Rank, tenure status, and salary will be commensurate with candidate qualifications. The positions will re main open until filled. Advanced Fellowship Program in Mental Illness Research and Treatment
The Office of Academic Affiliations, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), is now accepting applications from Psychologists for its two-year Post-Doctoral Advanced Fellowship Program in Mental Health Research and Treatment. The 23 fellowship positions, one for each of 23 sites nationwide, begin between July 1st and October 1st, 2012. Each Fellowship site is part of a MIRECC (Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center), COE (Center of Excellence), NCPTSD (National Center for PTSD) Division, SMITREC (Serious Mental Illness Treatment Research and Evaluation Center) or CESATE (Center of Excellence in Substance Abuse Treatment and Education) and each is affiliated with an academic institution. This interdisciplinary program aims to train psychologists to become outstanding clinical researchers in high priority areas of mental health. Individualized, mentored research and clinical training is combined with a state-of-the-art curriculum that emphasizes research methods, statistics, epidemiology, mental health systems, quality improvement methods, education, and service delivery. Fellowship sites are linked electronically for didactic, academic, and research efforts. Fellows devote the majority of their time to patient oriented research and education activities and 25% to direct patient clinical care. In collaboration with their mentors, Fellows will develop and implement a research project, publish and present findings, participate in grant writing, and utilize the latest technology for educational activities and clinical service delivery. Applicants must have obtained a doctorate from an APA accredited program in clinical or counseling psychology and completed an APA accredited internship in clinical or counseling psychology. Fellows must be U.S. citizens. The VA funds each Fellow’s stipend beginning at $42,239 per year, with yearly increases.
