I Worthy of Note I APMA Trustee Named Chicago Top Doc Matthew Garoufalis, DPM, APMA trustee, has been named a 2011 Chicago Top Doctor. The award is given by TopDoc Chicago (www.topdocchicago. com), an online physician search and appointment booking organization. TopDoc Chicago seeks nominations of top doctors and dentists from other health-care professionals. I will continue to strive for excellence and be an active part of the podiatric medical profession.” n APMA News l February 2011 49 APMSA Honors Annabelle Santos as 2010 Student of the Year By Sarah Haller The American Podiatric Medical Students’ Association (APMSA) has named Annabelle Santos of Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine its Student of the Year. Each college of podiatric medicine nom- Sarah Haller, Barry University Class of 2013 inated one fourth-year candidate who exemplifies professionalism in medicine and submitted the candidate’s essay on the challenges faced by medical students. Santos’ essay focused on balancing education and other activities for a well-rounded sense of self. In addition to her outstanding essay, Santos has an impressive curriculum vitae. Sanjay Sesodia, PhD, professor of physiology at Barry University, said of Santos, “There isn’t a more appropriate and deserving person for this award.” On November 12, Santos received the APMSA award from the APMSA Barry delegation at a banquet held in her honor. She was presented with a plaque and a $1,000 scholarship by APMSA.
