Affiliates Corner Orthoses Practice Guidelines Updated and Available The popular Prescription Custom Foot Orthoses Practice Guidelines were developed by the American College of Foot and Ankle Orthopedics and Medicine (ACFAOM) in response to the need for better definitions and indications for prescription custom foot orthoses. This document was updated recently and is now available to all ACFAOM members for free on the members’ website at www.acfaom.org. It is available to nonmembers for a nominal price. Published in 2001, and revised previously in 2004 and 2006, this 40-page document is a definitive source regarding how prescription custom foot orthoses can and should be applied for different lower extremity conditions. ICD-9 codes are identified throughout with different diagnoses. Additionally, for each condition, a statement of therapeutic efficacy is provided to help practitioners recognize when prescription custom foot orthoses should and can be used as part of a treatment plan. More than 200 references are included. The guidelines editor, ACFAOM board member Michael Robinson, DPM, MPH, JD, said, “This latest edition continues the usefulness of these practice guidelines that were created by ACFAOM almost a decade ago for a very important aspect of podiatric care. I appreciate the work of my committee colleagues, Drs. Beth Jarrett, Robert Marcus, and Rosemay Michel. I am sure these practice guidelines will continue to be useful to every podiatric practice.” If ACFAOM members do not wish to download the free copy of the document from the website, they can purchase bound copies for $20 (including shipping and handling). Bound copies are available for nonmembers of ACFAOM for $40 (including shipping and handling). Order online at www. acfaom.org or by calling 800-265-8263, extension 6536. ■ by podiatrists’ patients.
