In Short Survey Finds Most Physicians Distrustful of Health-care Reform New survey results from the Deloitte Center for Health Solutions find that physicians are not optimistic about health care in a post-reform era, even though most physicians surveyed (71 percent) claim to be “somewhat informed” about the Affordable Care Act legislation. Forty-four percent said it was a good starting point, but just as many believed it is a step in the wrong direction. Deloitte found that 73 percent of physicians surveyed believe emergency rooms will remain overwhelmed due to increased demands from newly insured patients. Society for Vascular Surgery Welcomes Podiatrists as Physician Members The Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) has approved membership for podiatrists in the same category as other physicians who are not vascular surgeons (e.g., cardiologists). This recognition of podiatrists in a physician category speaks to the outstanding relationship APMA has built with SVS and the extensive education the association has conducted among other health-care professionals to underscore podiatrists’ education, training, and experience. APMA + Latina Magazine Diabetes awareness month may have officially ended, but education about the disease never should. That’s why APMA has run a halfpage, color advertisement in the February 2012 issue of Latina magazine. The advertisement was created as part of the most recent “Knock Your Socks Off” diabetes awareness campaign targeting the Hispanic community, which is at increased risk of developing the disease. APMA PR staff worked closely with Latina magazine to ensure the ad would resonate with its influential audience and blend well with the theme of the magazine. Latina is the largest women’s consumer magazine edited by and for Hispanic women, and it has a combined audience of nearly three million, including subscriptions and copies sold.
