Affiliates Corner APMSA’s 2012 Nifty 50/50 Raffle to Benefit Student Scholarships Purchase your tickets now for the American Podiatric Medical Students’ Association’s (APMSA) 50/50 raffle! Proceeds will be split equally, with 50 percent going to the winning ticket and the other 50 percent to the APMA Educational Foundation. The drawing will be held at the APMA Annual Scientific Meeting (The National) on August 18 in Washington, DC, during the APMA 100th Anniversary Gala, 8–11 p.m. You need not be present to win. All AENS training faculty donate their time to teach and mentor two courses per year to advance extremity nerve treatment. Their intense commitment is the reason nerve treatment is becoming a more prevalent means of quality treatment for chronic pain, neuropathy, and other issues. The faculty from the Advanced Peripheral Nerve Course also offered a weekend track with Mercy Hospital surgeons. The lectures were attended by 40 New England podiatrists. For information about future training sessions, visit www.aens.us. n Association of Extremity Nerve Surgeons The Association of Extremity Nerve Surgeons (AENS) held its 2012 Advanced Peripheral Nerve Course in Maine May 30–June 2. The course included lectures with case studies, cadaveric dissection, live diagnostic work-ups, and surgical observation. AENS thanks Education Chair James Wilton, DPM, of Maine, and the training sites made available by the University of New England-Biddeford and Mercy Hospital–Portland. AENS Texas Podiatric Medical Foundation Provides Grants and Missions The Texas Podiatric Medical Foundation (TPMF) provided its first scholarship grants at the Texas Podiatric Medical Association (TPMA) meeting June 30 in Galveston, TX. The foundation thanks all donors, especially Mile High Orthotics Lab of Colorado, for making these grants possible. Grant applicants submitted a paper, reference letter, and record of charitable work. All Texas residents were eligible to apply. The 2012 recipients are: • • • • Amy Riedel, DPM (Hunt Regional Medical Center PM&S-36)— $1,000 Falknor Charitable Outreach Award Jakob Thorud, DPM (Scott & White Memorial Hospital PM&S-36)— $1,000 Armstrong Case Study Award Amy Riedel, DPM (Hunt Regional Medical Center PM&S-36) and Jon Humphers, DPM (Scott & White Memorial Hospital PM&S-36)— Mile High Biomechanics Award ($500 each) West Houston Medical Center-Harris County PM&S-36— $500 Fellow Grant Award The July 2012 TPMF Medical Mission will travel to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and surrounding areas. The trip will sponsor six residents. Eight podiatrists and volunteers also will participate. The mission provides a free clinic, surgical corrections, and screenings and shoes for three orphanages in the city. TPMA thanks Bako Podiatric Pathology Services and the American Association of Podiatric Practice Management for their generous sponsorship for resident travel grants. TPMA also supports other affiliate missions throughout the year.
