Podiatrists Golf for a Good Cause, Raise More Than $500,000 P odiatrists save limbs and lives every day by providing essential foot and ankle care. But when given the opportunity, many don’t hesitate to tee off for a good cause. The 23rd Annual Kaplan-Clarke Invitational (KC) took place on October 17–21, 2012, at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort in Kiawah, SC. Organized by APMA, the event brought podiatrists from across the US and Canada to hit the links, listen to guest speakers offer insight on practice management, and contribute to a fundraiser that netted more than half a million dollars for educating legislators about podiatric medicine. Credit for the great success of this tournament rests entirely with the state podiatric medical societies, loyal companies, and APMA members who generously support the KC. These entities and individuals make an invaluable investment in our profession and our future by supporting efforts to educate legislators and regulators about the education, training, experience, and role of doctors of podiatric medicine in health-care delivery. “Through the Kaplan-Clarke fundraiser, our members and their families are able to have fun while raising an incredible amount of money to support essential education efforts,” said Joseph Caporusso, DPM, APMA president. The four-day tournament and practice management seminar is the principal fundraiser for APMA’s Government Education Fund (GEF). Tournament committee co-chairs Gary Kaplan, DPM, and William Dabdoub, DPM, as well as member Eugene Spector, DPM, and Chair Emeritus Oliver Foster, DPM, are proud to announce the 2012 event raised nearly $54,000. The APMA GEF supports efforts to inform legislative leaders about important issues facing podiatric medicine through APMA’s annual podiatric legislative conference and the eAdvocacy website, www.apma.org/eAdvocacy. “Without major sponsors and other contributors, KC would not have raised more than $500,000 over the past 23 years in support of the profession. Those funds have helped train our leadership during the annual legislative conference and helped pay for APMA’s eAdvocacy website.
